Description

Genes examined

  • SERPINH1
Application:
- Identification of heterozygous carriers for breeding selection.
- Diagnosis in case of clinical symptoms
The mutation for OI, osteogenesis imperfecta, is located in the SERPHIN1 gene. Affected animals have a disturbed collagen formation, so that bones break easily (glass bones) and heal badly. The abnormalities start at 3 weeks with pain, lameness and bone fractures. Healing is not possible. The trait is autosomal recessive, so that carrier animals are without symptoms. Mating of carrier animals should be prevented.
